DO-IT-YOURSELF ESTATE PLANNING IS A VERY BAD IDEA

In the day and age of Google and the world seemingly being at our fingertips, I'm seeing more and people take on tasks that they are eminently unqualified to take on.  Remember, you're not a car mechanic merely because you watched an engine repair video online.  This same concept holds true when it comes to putting together an effective estate plan that will best address your family's particular needs.

Just because you can buy a Last Will and Testament, Durable Power of Attorney, Living Will or some type of Trust related instrument from a non-lawyer online site, doesn't mean it's a good idea to do so.  Moreover if you simply slow down and do a bit of research, you'll typically find that you can get the same documents prepared by a real lawyer in your area at for for about the same cost as the online company is charging.

Here's an older article from Forbes magazine that does a nice job of spelling out precisely what some of the pitfalls of online estate planning can be.  Take a look.
