We hear it everyday in our practice, “I did my estate planning years ago, I’m good to go.” The truth is, you may not be as “good to go” as you may think.
We typically counsel our clients to review their Wills, Powers of Attorneys, Trusts and other estate planning documents every few years to make sure that they are up-to-date with not only the client’s current wishes, but also with respect to any changes that may have occurred under Pennsylvania law. Namely, if we prepared a client’s Will many years ago when their children were still very young, it’s quite likely that those documents will need to revised or altogether redone at some point.
Here’s an article that I came across in the Wall Street Journal that really does a nice job of explaining just why it’s so important to keep your estate plan current.
