What Does an Executor Actually Do?

Being named as the Executor/Executrix of a loved one's estate is a great honor, but it's also a great responsibility.  Usually the first question we get from a client who is about to enter into the probate estate administration process is, "what do I actually have to do?"  Well, the short answer is, a lot of different things.  However, what the Executor's duties boil down to is the gathering and marshaling of the deceased person's assets, the resolution of their outstanding debts and liabilities and the ultimate distribution of the net proceeds of the estate to the intended heirs and designated beneficiaries.

Here's a nice article that I came across in Forbes Magazine that does a nice job of outlining in further detail some of the many responsibilities and duties of an Executor.
